In this paper, two kinds of hyperbranched polyesteramides of PS2550 and HI500 were blended with polypropylene in different weight content. The influence of hyperbranched polyesteramide to the thermal properties, mechanical properties, rheological behaviors and crystallization behaviors of polypropylene was studied. Fine polypropylene yarns were obtained with melt spinning using a MST C-400 ABE spinning machine. Orientation degree was studied using a SC—III sound velocimeter. Mechanical properties of the yanrs were studied using a AGS-500ND general material testing machine. The dyeability of the yarns was examined using CI Disperse Red 202 and a Pyrotec 2001 Infrared Ray High Temperature Dyeing Machine. K/S values and dye uptake were studied using a computer colour testing instrument and a ultraviolet spectrophotometer.(1) 1%(by weight), 3%, 5% hyperbranched polyesteramide PS2550 and H1500 were added into polypropylene. The results showed that PS2550 changed the crystallization properties strikingly. The compatibility of PS2550 and polypropylene was better than that of H1500 and polypropylene. The tensile strength increased as PS2550 content increased. The elastic modulus decreased as PS2550 content increased. H1500 increased the tensile strength of Polypropylene. The elastic modulus decreased as H1500 content increased. The elongation at break decreased as H1500 content increased. X-ray diffraction results found that hyperbranched polyesteramides decreased the crystallinity of polypropylene. The onset decomposition temperature of hyperbranched polyesteramide/polypropylene was 110℃higher than that of neat polypropylene.(2) Pellets prepared using the double-screw extruder were spun using a MST C-400 ABE spinning machine. It was found that the PS2550/polypropylene blends enjoyed good spinnibility and fine modified polypropylene yarns were obtained with the denier of 1.0-1.3 dtex. While H1500/polypropylene blends had worse spinnibility, broken filaments and broken wires often appeared during the spinning process. Orientation degree was increased as PS2550 content increased. The tensile strength of the polypropylene yarns was increased as PS2550 content increased(0%-3%), Elongation at break of the modified polypropylene yarns decreased as PS2550 content increased.(3) The dyeability of the yarns was examined using CI Disperse Red 202 and a Pyrotec 2001 Infrared Ray High Temperature Dyeing Machine. K/S values and dye uptake were studied using a computer colour testing instrument and a ultraviolet spectrophotometer. The results showed that the dye uptake and the K/S value were greatly enhanced with the incorporation of PS2550. This indicated that the incorporation of PS2550 markedly enhanced the dyeability of polypropylene with C.I. Disperse Red 202.
