Nano-sized rare earth compounds have been attracted much attention in mechanics, luminescence and catalysis fields due to their optic, electric and magnetic properties. The Poly(amido-amine)(PAMAM) dendrimers have highly branched and similarly spheric structure, and the nano-cavum inside can encapsulate nano-sized molecules, metal ions and atoms. So it can be used as a template to synthesize nano-sized rare earth compounds. In this paper, CeO2 nanoparticles were prepared with G5.0 PAMAM as a template, and characterized by TEM, XRD and so on. The results indicated that the CeO2 nanoparticles with well dispersion had the mean grain size of about 7-8 nm. CeO2 nanoparticles showed good catalytic activity for the oxidation of benzaldehyde to benzoic acid.Y2O3:Dy3+ and LaPO4:Dy3+ nanoparticles were prepared with G5.0 PAMAM as a template, and characterized by TEM, XRD and so on. The results indicated that the prepared nanoparticles were well dispersed without agglomeration. The fluorescence spectrum showed the characteristic emission of Dy3+ in the host. Ions codoped could enhance the intensity of fluorescence and adjust the Y/B values in the characteristic emission of Dy3+. In this way the near-white light emission can be obtained and the prepared products would be a potential fluorescence material candidate for non-mercury-vapor lamp. It’s significant to the protection of environment.
