The extensive impact on our environment and public health of the particulatematter, is causing more and more attention to our people. So, it is imperative tomonitor the particulate matter. The routine ground-based observation can provide theconcentration and time change of the particulate matter. However, due to the limitedamount, the ground-based observation can hardly meet the needs of the wide range ofmonitoring the particulate matter. The use of the remote sensing can make up theshortage of ground observation.Calculate the particulate matter with aerosol optical thickness is one of themethods to monitor the particulate matter. This essay is to study the correlationbetween the aerosol optical thickness and PM10using the aerosol optical thicknessproducts from the MODIS website. The correlation coefficient is0.76, whichindicates that using remote sensing data to monitor the PM10is feasible. Thenintroducing the humidity factor and modeling, we monitored the PM10in the PearlRiver Delta region in the summer of2011with the optimal model. Verified byprecision,it shows that the linear model can better monitor the PM10. The retrievalresults and Arcgis are used to statistics the PM10in the Pearl River Delta. And itshows that Zhongshan City has the highest concentration of PM10, while Zhaoqing,Huizhou have the lowest concentration of PM10.MODIS land cover classification data and vegetation index data are used to select thefeature points from woodland、 grassland、 farmland、 building land、 desertwasteland and high vegetation coverage area、 high vegetation coverage area、vegetation coverage area、low vegetation coverage area、low vegetation coveragearea. Using IDL program, we extract the PM10data in the feature points and study therelationship between PM10and underlying surface. The results show that there is anegative relationship between vegetation coverage and PM10;The concentration ofPM10is woodland <grass <farms, building land <desert wasteland.
