Application Of Han Dynasty Cloud Patterns In Furniture Design

Application of the Han Dynasty cloud patterns in furniture design was discussed in this paper, the main purposes is to carry on the form of the essence and culture of the Han Dynasty cloud patterns, and to make it combined with modern design for make using of its advantage. Under the influence of modern aesthetics and multicultural factors, the furniture design can carry forward the traditional culture and the national spirit, and make the furniture design more national.Based on the results of the predecessors’studies, the author collected and summarized the relevant literatures and pictures. And let the politics and culture of the Han Dynasty as a starting point, this paper analyzes the cultural background of the formation of the Han Dynasty cloud patterns, and summarize four types of the Han cloud patterns:animal and plant cloud pattern, banding cloud pattern, streamline cloud pattern, linear cloud pattern, etc. And then analyzes the artistic characteristics of the Han cloud patterns from five aspects such as primitiveness, humanities, abstractness, randomness, symbolism, etc. To summarize the form characteristics of the Han cloud patterns from five aspects like form changes, overall unity, rhythm and cadence, symmetry and balance, level harmony, etc. It is worthy to learn the unique artistic expression of the Han cloud patterns, which could be a good foundation to study the cloud patterns applied in furniture design.In addition, to explore and discuss briefly that the expression and application status of the Han cloud patterns applied in furniture design, the author found that the cloud patterns in modern furniture design is not very common, it’s mainly applied like either simplified or deformed; Then specifically discussed the method of expression that the Han clouds patterns applied in furniture design:firstly, based on the perspective of modern aesthetic, the form of the Han cloud patterns is redesigned after as extracting and abstraction, addition and deletion, inductiveness and generalization, decomposition and reorganization and so on; Secondly, analysis of the form of composition in the Han cloud patterns used in furniture, such as symmetric type, scattered type, continuous type, corner type and so on; Thirdly, to explore the performance of different materials and different fabrications, and indicated that with the development of materials and crafts, the selection of materials are no longer only like timber, as well as glass, metal, etc, the crafts selected besides carving and painting, as well as mosaic, molding, etc.Finally, the author design a practice that based on the discussion and conclusion of the article:through the complete design ideas, inspirations, and effects showing of the bedroom furniture to confirmed rationality and feasibility of the Han cloud patterns applied in furniture design.
