Steel is the foundation of the national economy, and its output is a main sign of weighing a national industrial development degree. Mineral separation is requisite to smelt steel. The yield and quality of powdered iron ore in dressing plant is the decisive factor for steel production. It’s not impossible to product a lot of steel without enough powdered iron ore. If iron ore slurry grade is too low, it will cause a lot of unqualified products. If iron ore slurry grade is too high, the available ore materials become so less that make poor output. It is important to detect total iron grade of ore slurry in mineral processing plant, which is the key control technical parameter for mineral separation.Ray detection technology has its unique advantages in material composition analysis, so dual energy gamma ray absorption technology is used for iron slurry grade online analysis. First, through the theoretical analysis to study the interaction between radiation and matter, the mathematical model and measurement equipment are constructed for measuring iron slurry grade. Then, the grade instrument is applied in industrial field to carry out calibration. The calibration method suitable for field application is found by a lot of collected data and depth analysis. Finally, field application of grade instrument is summarized to improve and upgrade for the instrument, so that adaptability to field is improved. The detection precision for iron is±0.5%(1δ) after field calibration, which is meet the accuracy demand of slurry grade. Through the improvement of field calibration technique, the debugging and maintenance have become more simple and convenient. The instrument adaptability is greatly improved by the reform and upgrading of the grade instrument. So the grade instrument can adapt to different dressing processes and provide the basis for the real-time control of production.Slurry grade instrument has become the trustworthy equipment from the experimental equipment after the continuous improvement and perfection. Slurry grade instrument can meet the need of mineral processing, and the problem of iron grade of test results delay can be resolved. Slurry grade instrument is moderate price online grade analyzer with independent intellectual property rights, so that it is conducive to the promotion in the ore dressing plant. The grade of instrument is not combined with the process automation to participate in automatic control at present. With the continuous development of mine automation and slurry grade equipment upgrade, the application of slurry grade instrument is carried out in dressing plant for closed loop control.
