As the economic globalization and the market competition the manufacturing industry is facing severe challenges. So how to improve the machining quality and save machining time has become the core problem that most enterprises are facing. For the last century the development of the CNC technology has brought great changes in the field of manufacturing. These years the CNC technology is aiming for high accuracy high flexibility. During the development of the CNC technology, the disadvantages of GM code which is more and more obvious has become the bottleneck of the CNC technology, Just under such a background the ISO set the STEP-NC standard. The standard provide a standard that can describe the work piece model in the whole life cycle. This can help realize the integration of CAD CAPP and CAM.The screw is the common part in machining industry. Different kinds of machining equipment use different kinds of special screws.The way to process special screws fast and efficiently is a project worth researching. In this paper,we see a CAM system to handle the manufacturing data of screws based on STEP-NC. Frist the paper shows us how the STEP-NC standard was proposed, the main concept and structure the standard,the research of STEP-NC in different country,the research of screws manufacturing,Then explain the describe method of screw. The CAM system depart the program into several function modules. The paper shows us the way to realize the function modules. STEP Tools company develop the ST-Developer tools and function library.We use IKVM function transformation tools to transform the type of the function library. We chose C#as our programming language.The program in the paper can obtain the aim we hoped basically. It can deal with the AP203file produced by UG and can deal with the processing information with the information form interactive mode into AP238files. But the CAM program can handle only one kind of screw and the processing information is not enough, It is lack of tool planning function module, because of the lack of time, The screw processing system can enrich the STEP-NC application as well as provide a way to produce screw manufacturing program.
