The mold powder has been an important factor for the continuous casting production.The quality of the mold powder affects the quality of slab and the steady production ofcontinuous casting. With the development of high speed continuous casting and theincrease in the quality of slab, more and more problems have been appeared. One of themis the effect of the lubrication of the mold powder on the heat transfer process and on theadsorption to inclusions in steel melt. So, how to guarantee the steady production ofcontinuous casting is an important problem for the development of mold powder.In order to guarantee the quality of the slab, based on the review of the research andthe applications, both home and abroad, and the production process of Anling Steel,research works to develop the mold powder that can be used in the production ofcontinuous casting of Anling Steel were carried out in the paper. The contents are asfollowing:1. Analysed the chemical compositions of the mold powder on its performancethrough the review on a lot of researches about the relationships of the chemicalcompositions of the mold powder and it’s performance. It supplies the theoretical basis forthe development of the mold powder.2. Studied experimentally the effect of the chemical compositions of various moldpowder on the surface quality of slab, obtained the quality index of the mold powder.3. Based on the comprehensive consideration for the effects of various factors on thecontinuous casting process, designed3kinds of the mold powder and selected the best oneto undergo the industrial test in Anling Steel. The result of the industrial test shows thatthe effect of the industrial test is very good, and now the mold powder has been usedsmoothly in the production of Anling Steel.
