There are two reasons for the high strength glass fiber to be an attractive fiber material. One is that it can be easily used to replace other glass fibers such as E glass fiber, and used into those production lines which have used these fibers, compared with those other organic fibers. The other reason is that the manufacturing cost is lower than those organic fibers with the same performance. So if you can get the quality you need from the high strength glass fiber, it would be easier and save cost. With the increasing demands, the high strength glass fiber has been developing quickly in recent years in North America, Europe and other developed countries. Since2004, the per year demand are increasing by over25%annually. In our country, the high strength glass fiber, as the state encourages development new material, also obtains the attention of the field and has achieved great development.High tensile strength is the prominent advantage of high strength glass fiber, while the defect is that the forming temperature is high. The needed temperatures of liquid and leakage plate are above1500℃, it needs to use special refractory materials and precious metal materials such as platinum, rhodium for the furnace. And the drawing technology is hard, production cost is high. Although our country has been one of the biggest glass fiber production countries in the world at present, it is not a technical powerful nation. Many high performance glass fibers and soakage agents still need to be imported. So the researches on high performance glass fibers and soakage agents are still the main direction of long-term development of high strength glass fiber.The purpose of this study is to do some basic researches for developing good performance high strength glass fiber products. In this article the effects of different oxides on the high strength glass fiber were researched through the performance tests. And the significance of the study is to provide the theoretical guidance and data support for the development of new high strength glass fiber. According to the literature search results, three kinds of a typical oxide, B2O3,Li2O and ZrO2, were selected as the research objects in this paper.According to the results of this study it could be concluded that different modified oxides added into the high strength glass fiber components would affect the property of process and usability. Results showed appropriate boric oxide would improve the tensile strength of SiO2-Al2O3-MgO fiberglass, and perfect the processing property through reducing the high temperature viscosity of the glass. At the same time it also lowers the density of the glasswork which will help to expand the applied range of the glass fiber. Especially in wind power field, the lower density will help to lower the weight of the blade which will serve some room for improving the efficiency of the fan. There is another side we should aware is that the addition of boric oxide caused some reduce of the property of resistance to chemical attack, which will improve the request for composite matrix and soakage agent.In order to improve the processing property, flux was taken into consideration. Here, lithium oxide was chosen as one object added into the high strength glass fiber component. Because of lithium oxide has a strong potential to break the glass structure network, it has a strong fluxing action. If too much of it was added it will affect the property of glasswork. So, try to choose an appropriate amount of introduction is very important. From the results of the experiments we can notice that Lithia caused some break of the basic silica structure in a certain extent. But at the early stage it also promotes the formation of Alumina tetrahedron stable structure. So it doesn’t cause too much difference with the property of glasswork.Zirconia can be combined with the silica group in silicate glass structure to get into the glass network. It will enhance the strength of glass network structure to some extent. The results of the experiments show us that2wt.%is an appropriate introducing quantity. With this amount of introduction the strength of the glass structure will be enhanced and the tensile strength of glass fiber will be improved. At the same time it caused some decrease of the toughness.
