Direct flame heating is an important annealing heat treatment method in industrial production process, and its core part is the nozzle. The research object of this study is a given burner with slot nozzle. Study of the nozzle performances and flame characteristics for premixed methane/air flame are carried out by using the combined experimental and numerical methods. The suitable working condition of the nozzle has been found out by experiment. During the numerical simulations, comparisons between different reaction methods are carried out to find the best one. The nozzle performances and the flame characteristics are carefully studied by the experiments and calculations, which is intended for providing support for the designation of industrial nozzle. It is observed that, for the premixed combustion, the main influence factors of the flame is the air. The premixed flame heating capability can be improved by increasing air flow. In the working condition, the gas flow has less influences on the flame. The effective heating section of the flame is in the area15-20cm above the burner nozzle, where the reaction is thorough and complete. Compared with the Eddy-Dissipation model, the Eddy-Dissipation-Concept model can achieve a better prediction of premixed flame, but the results are not good enough as compared with the experimental data.
