Dimethyl ether (DME) is an alternative clean fuel due to its many merits such as high H/C ratios, environmental friendly. Steam reforming of dimethyl ether (DME SR) is a promising hydrogen production process for fuel cell applications and is composed of two consecutive reactions:hydrolysis of DME to form methanol and the steam reforming of methanol to produce hydrogen. At present, the development of efficient reforming catalyst is very important in DME steam reforming process. In this work, the reactivity of a novel plate anodic alumina in DME hydrolysis reaction was compared with that of the commercial Al2O3and zeolites and the coking behaviors were also investigated over γ-Al2O3/Al and ZSM-5catalysts; a reaction network were developed to illustrate the reaction mechanism of DME hydrolysis. Moreover, a Cu/γ-Al2P3/Al catalyst prepared by impregnation method was evaluated for hydrogen production from DME steam reforming and the degradation behaviors of the Cu/γ-Al2O3/Al catalyst were systematically studied in DME SR reaction. At last, a pre-competitive impregnation method was employed to prepare the composite catalyst and the catalytic performance was investigated to explain Cu(NO3)2dipping mechanism. Meanwhile, the Cu/γ-Al2P3/Al catalysts with the addition of different metals were also compared in DME SR system, which effectively inhibit the degradation of the composite catalyst.
