The application of secondary treatment process in most domestic wastewatertreatment plants often leads to high cost of electricity and operating and incompleteremoval of pollutants. Though biotrickling filter-one traditional biofilm process,requires no aeration and produces less secondary pollutants, it won’t function well inlow temperature conditions when the inside microbes can barely survive. T Therefore,a dual-model biotricking filter has been developed in this study for simultaneousremoval of pollutants and odor from waste water. The developed filter could be run ina tricking mode under appropriate temperature conditions and switched to asubmerged aeration mode when the temperature dropped.Firstly,the natural membrane anti-load capacity, high stability, the removalefficiency was better, but hanging of the biofilm took too long; Weaker the closedmud anti-load capacity, lower stability of biofilms, microorganisms can be quicklyattached to the surface of the filler, it took short start-consuming, the effect of removalreached the same standards. Secondly, trickling mode synchronization on sewage andodor, tested the effect of pre-treatment, H2S outlet concentration of the volcanics wasonly about0.033mg/m3. H2S outlet concentration of the cokes only0.029mg/m3,reached a standard of sewage treatment plant emissions of the plant boundary with thetrials, H2S removal efficiency above85%, odor emissions could reach the basic twostandard0.1mg/m3. the CODCrin the wastewater of Volcanics value about64mg/L,the other about70mg/L, basically reached the urban “sewage treatment plant pollutantdischarge standards "(GB18918-2002) a B standard. The effluent ammonia were35.45mg/L and39.91mg/L, basically reached the secondary standard.Total nitrogenremoval less effective due to the impact of H2S gas, but the volcanics denitrificationbetter than coke. The entire system due to a lack of phosphorus removal mechanism,and thus less phosphorus removal effect, the highest removal rate of only30%, theeffluent concentration can only reach two standards.Last, switching to a submergedmicro-aeration mode,CODCr,ammonia removal substantially independent switchingmode,the water can reach a B standard, TN and TP removal. Requirements ofdual-mode biofilter not only solve the problem of biological trickling filter wintering and power consumption was substantially equal to or slightly larger than thebiological trickling filter, in line with the national energy saving, energy-savingadvantages are obvious.
