Cyclotriveratrylene (CTV) which has similar structure with calixarene is a class of macrocyclic host molecule with rigid electron-rich cavity and unique C3symmetry structure. In recent years, the application of CTV includes applications such as in sensors and separations; in self-organised materials such as gels, liquid crystals, dendritic systems, and self-assembled monolayers. Tetraphenylethylenes (TPEs) were found to be non-luminescent in dilute solution but emissive in the aggregated state due to restricted intramolecular rotations and decreased nonradiative decay. The phenomenon is called aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect and provides a promising platform in applications ranging from optical materials to sensors.The dissertation is divided into following sections:In the introductory chapter, we introduced-some basic properties of macrocyclic molecule CTV, recent progresses in sugar-functionalized macrocyclic compounds, and studies of organic porous polymers about the capacities of hydrogen absorption. In chapter2, we synthesized CTC-G and CTC-L through a series of chemical reaction with glucose and lactose via the starting material CTV, respectively. They were characterized by IR, NMR.In chapter3, because of the host-guest interaction between sugar-functionalized water-soluble cyclotriveratrylene derivatives with C6o, the fluorescence intensity of CTC-G, CTC-L was significantly quenched at the presence of C6o in organic solvent. Meanwhile, the solubility of C60in water increased greatly at the presence of CTC-G, CTC-LIn chapter4, we can obtained three organic porous polymers by oxidative coupling polymerization of TPE-based monomers tetrakis(2-thienyl)ethylene and2,2’,7,7’-tetrakis(2-thienyl)-9,9’-spirobifluorene. The highest BET surface area for these polymers was763m2g-1. Gravimetric hydrogen adsorption isotherms show that the hydrogen uptake of synthetic porous polymer is up to1.07wt%.
