Fluid Flow And Inclusion Behaviors In A Continuous Billet Caster

With the development of the society, people pay more attention to the quality of the steel, so the research on the high-quality steel has become the hot topic currently.The thesis consists of two parts. In the first part, on the basis of the condition of the continuous billet caster in a steelmaking factory, Numerical simulation technology was applied to study the effect of the casting speeds and the diameter of the submerged entry nozzles on the fluid flow in the continuous billet caster. In the second part, based on the force balance theory, a mathematical model to describe the movement of non-metallic inclusions was developed to study the trajectories of the inclusions in bloom billet continuous caster and to investigate the effects of the inclusion’s shape factor and the diameter of the submerge nozzle on the removal rate of the inclusions. The results were as follows:(1) On the condition of the different casting speeds, the fluid flow in the continuous billet caster was similar.(2) With the increase of the casting speed, the maximums of the velocity and the turbulent kinetic energy at the free surface increased.(3) With the increase of the diameter of submerged entry nozzle, the maximums of the velocity and the turbulent kinetic energy in the free surface increased.(4) For the same shape inclusions, with the increase of the diameter of the inclusion, the removal rate of the inclusion increased; for the same size inclusion, with the decrease of inclusions shape factor, the removal rate of the inclusion increased, and the removal rate was higher especially for the inclusions whose diameter was greater than10μm.
