Protecting and improving water environment has become a hot topic at homeand abroad. The water quality mathematical model is a mathematical language todescribe the ocean, lake and river pollution in the process of physics, chemistry, biochemistry and bio-ecological aspects of the inherent law and interrelation, byusing which can simulate and predict the water quality, including the status ofdistribution and the change law over time. In particular, the water qualitymathematical model, GIS technology and other related IT technology are combined toimplement visualized simulation of water quality in river, which can providescientific evidence and decision scheme for monitoring, improving, regulating andmanaging of water quality. Therefore, the simulation study of river water qualitymodel based on GIS technology has important practical significance. In this paper, it is on the basis of equation solution of one-dimensional waterquality model and parameter calibration, computerized solution of one-dimensionalwater quality model has been programmed by using MatrixVB. One-dimensionalwater quality model simulation system based on GIS technology is developed. Thefunctions of the system, include data maintenance, data query, display and operationof electronic map, water quality simulation. The developed system is further appliedfor the main stream of the Liao River. It comes true that one-dimensional steady-statewater quality visualization simulation and one-dimensional unsteady-state waterquality visualization simulation from Pingan Pu hydrologic station to Liujian Fanghydrologic station. This system can simulate the distribution of pollutants along theriver axis and time axis at the condition of stable pollution discharge or suddenpollution discharge. The attenuation of simulated pollution is first-order reaction andreaction rate is constant. The simulation results can be not only displayed through thetwo-dimensional data tables and charts, but also through GIS visualizationtechnology.
