PBO is the abbreviation of Poly-p-phenylene benzo-dual-port oxazole fiber, regarded as super fiber in the21st century for high strength,high modulua and so on. Poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone)(PPESK) is a new type of special high-performance plastics can resistant high temperature, its overall performance is superior. For poor adhesive condition between the interface,we can use air dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma to solve this problem.In this paper, we use the atmospheric pressure air DBD plasma to modified PBO fiber surface, by changing the processing time, the discharge power density to determine the best process. We can use X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to test the polar group content of PBO fiber surface; calculate the roughness of the surface of the PBO fiber by Atomic force microscope (AFM); calculated the free energy of PBO fiber surface by dynamic contact angle analyzer (DCAA); observe the roughness of PBO fiber surface, with the resin bonding condition and PBO/PPESK fracture surface topography by scanning electron microscope (SEM); test the interlaminar shear strength on PBO/PPESK composite materials by universal testing machine;test water absorption and so on.Change processing time introduce a new functional group-O-C=O, the content of-C-O-,-C=O,-C=N-,-O-C=O respectively reach24.75%,6.93%,3.96%and4.96%; roughness increases from188.27nm to274.17nm; surface free energy increases from44.04mJ/m2to65.85MJ/m2; interlaminar shear strength increases from33.24MPa to39.41MPa; water absorption decreases from0.46to0.32. We can draw a conclusion:10s is the optimum processing time.Changing the discharge power density also can introduce the new functional group-O-C=O, the content of-C-O-,-C=O,-C=N-,-O-C=O respectively reach28.69%,9.84%,4.92%and6.15%;roughness increases from188.27nm to304.78nm; surface free energy increases from44.04mJ/m2to71.41MJ/m2; interlaminar shear strength increases from33.24MPa to44.71MPa; water absorption decreases from0.46to0.27. We can draw a conclusion the best discharge power density is41.4W/cm3.Within a certain range, changing processing time and the discharge power density have little effect on the tensile performance of the main body of PBO fiber. So air DBD plasma is an effective means to modified fiber. Finaly, we come to a conclusion:the processing time10s, discharge power density41.4W/cm3is optimum process conditions.
