In this study, SiCP/AT81or SiCP/2014Al composites were successfully fabricated bypowder metallurgy and nano–SiCP/Al biomimetic laminated composites were fabricated byaccumulative roll bonding (ARB). Based on the present study, the following conclusions aremade.(1) In SiCP/AT81composites, microstructural examination showed nonuniform distributionof SiC partices in the matrix and the presence of minimal microporosity. Through highsintering, SiO2formed by oxidation and Mg will react as follows:4Mg+SiO2'Mg2Si+2MgO, so in SiCP-Oxi./AT81composites has higher content of MgO and Mg2Si.(2) In SiCP/AT81composites, yield strength, compression strength and wear resistanceincreased as the SiCPvolume fraction was increased from0to30vol.%, whereaselongation markedly decreased as the SiCPcontent was increased. The improvement inyield strength and compression strength of composites containing SiCP-Oxi.or finerpartices is significantly higher than the composite with SiCPor coarse partices.(3) In SiCP/2014Al composites, microstructural examination showed generally uniformdistribution of SiC partices in the matrix and the presence of minimal microporosity. The compression strength were improved in the beginning, but reduced in the end withincreased as the SiCPvolume fraction. The yield strength and wear resistance ofSiCP/2014Al increases slightly with the increasing of the reinforcement volume fraction.(4) Accumulative roll bonding (ARB) is successfully used as a severe plastic deformationmethod to produce nano–SiCP/Al biomimetic laminated composites. However, mechanical properties of the composite are not satisfactory; the preparation technologystill needs further reseatch.
