In the process of casting magnesium alloy thin-walled castings prone toshrinkage, porosity, blowhole, slag and other casting defects, that leading to lowyield and poor performance. In view of this problem, casting simulationsoftware MAGMAsoft is used to simulate the mold filling and solidificationprocess of large magnesium alloy thin-walled castings. The MAGMAsoftcontaining the German database is developed by the German professionalcasting staff. While the ZM6According to the domestic alloy grades, lack of thecorresponding database. The standard database of ZM6is created and developedand the heat transfer coefficient measurement experiment is designed, as well asthe database is checked.Based on computer solid modeling and numerical simulation, we usedPro/E to complete the casting and Gating system. ZM6large thin-walledcastings geometric model were imported into simulation software bypre-processing part of MAGMAsoft. The mess is divided according to the shapeof the casting various parts and characteristics of thickness. Subsequently, thethermal parameters, and mechanical performance parameters of Castings, coldiron, and sand the boundary conditions were set. The variation of flow field,temperature field and solid fraction of casting molding process were simulated.It is accurately to reflect the process of mold filling and solidification, predictpossible defects in casting defects and defective parts.Defects location were locked by X-ray inspection photo, and thencompared with the simulation results. Through casting defects were set aside,researching in the microstructure of defective parts and defect components, andrecommend improvements. Through the study of the flow field of castingprocess found that unreasonable due to the inner gate, the liquid metalinterchange is easy to produce turbulence, causing the pores and oxide defects and slag, increasing inside the gate, reducing the single pouring through thecasting process of the flow field analysis port speed, shorten the time of thewhole cast, to eliminate such defects; In the study of the ZM6large thin-walledmagnesium alloy castings solidification process, We found that between thejunction of body and feeding is easy to produce shrinkage, and simulationresults show that thin thick-walled adapter at the feeding channels close, andprone to shrinkage defects, set riser to ensure that the order of solidification, caneliminate such defects.
