It’s necessary for the weapon systems to be more secure and reliable in the complex electromagnetic environment. The laser initiation technology has a high immunity to electromagnetic interference and high initiation reliability because of using optical fiber to transmit the laser energy. Therefore, the laser initiation technology will become the trend of future develop in initiation technology. The laser-triggered explosive device has been designed in this paper. The solid-state laser was used as a ignition source, optical fiber was used to deliver laser outputs, the primary explosive(PETN) was ignited by the laser and then exploded, the metal flyer which was driven by explosion begun to accelerate to impact and ignited the secondary explosive(HMX). The fiber delivery characteristics of high power laser energy, and ignition sensitivity of PETN were investigated by experiments. Both of delay time for laser ignition and flyer plate average velocity were measured by using copper enameled wire and PVDF piezoelectric transducer. Finally, using the depth of aluminum block as evaluating the detonation performance of HMX. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) The transmission efficiency of optical fiber was influenced by its length, diameter and curvature. As the distance increases, the spot diameter will become bigger, but the output energy is reduced.(2) The ignition sensitivity of PETN was measured in Bruccton method, the result showed that the PETN with2%carbon black at the1064nm laser wavelength was more sensitive than the PETN with2%carbon black at the532nm laser wavelength.(3) The relationship between laser ignition delay time and explosive density showed that as the charge density increased, the laser ignition delay time was reduced; seal strength was increased can also reduce the laser ignition delay time.(4) Researches have shown that the smaller diameter of barrel and the lighter metal flyer plate were, the faster average velocity of flyer was. When the barrel’s length increased, the velocity of flyer plate became faster at first, if the barrel’s length was more longer, the velocity of flyer plate would be slower.(5) The detonation output performance of HMX can be influenced by the metal flyer plate velocity and flyer flatness. Generally, as the velocity of flyer became faster and the shape of flyer became flatter, the detonation performance also became stronger.
