Finishing Technology Research On The Durability Of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Mosquito Nets

Mosquito which threatens human beings health increasingly is the spreading media of much disease, such as malaria, dengue fever, epidemic encephalitis, etc. Mosquito nets which were treated with repellent and insecticide now play an important role in preventing disease vector and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended long-lasting mosquito nets as the best way to preventing mosquito bite and spread. There are two types of technology for manufacturing long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets (LNs):the first one is incorporating the insecticides into polyethylene or polypropylene yarn, and the second one is coating the insecticide onto polyester. We did research on the coating technology. The traditional mosquito nets which were impregnated through drug had no anti-mosquito function after one wash. In order to keep the durability of mosquito nets, we have done the following tests:The different formulations were used to prepare finishing liquid:the suspending formulation was used to emulsion finishing and the pesticide powder was used to prepare microcapsule. In order to compare the effect of the finishing method, we have done single-factor experiment and orthogonal test on the dosage of coupling agent, cross linking agent, pesticides and curing temperature. The durability refers to the washing resistance of the mosquito nets and the total content of active ingredient in the same netting was determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) detector.The experimental results indicate that the major factor that affects the absorbance is the insecticidal content in the finishing liquid, and the major factor affects the washing resistance is the curing temperature.Emulsion finishing process is simple and the insecticides uniformity is relatively good, but the durability is not as well as the microcapsule finishing. As the introduction of β-cyclodextrin, the preparation of microcapsule finishing liquid is complex and time-consuming, but the mosquito nets made by microcapsule technology show excellent washing resistance.
