With the rapid development of the economy and society, it has provided greatopportunity for the booming of the logistics and transportation of gods. In the today’s industryof transportation, it is very common that semi-trailers are largely used to load andtransportation, especially in medium and long distance and container transportation. The keycomponent of semi-trailer is the axle, which is also called as running gear. The axle should bepaid more significant attention and provided maintenance. The function of axle is not a driveshaft, but supporting, load bearing, running. Although the structure of axle is more simplythan the axle of passenger car, it is found that the cost of maintenance is always high afterinvestigating. Now, the cycle of maintenance of the lubrication system of wheel end of axle isnot ideal statement, but the trend of lubrication system will be lead to the direction of“free-maintenance” and “permanently lubrication”.The paper is mainly about the investigation of the lubrication of service condition of hubbearing of axle of semi-trailer, a combined with theatrical study and experiments to analysisthe wearing of bearing. It has laid theatrical foundation to prolong the renewing cycle ofgrease.The research contents are as follows:Firstly, after studying the way of lubrication and the renewing cycle of grease ofdomestic and foreign axles, making a detail plan about investigation of the renewing cycle ofgrease and service condition, and collecting the grease specimen for the later experiments.Secondly, summarizing the predecessors’ study and ferrography experiments, studyingabout the impact factor of the service life of lubrication system of hub bearings of the axle, itcan provide good basis to choose the available grease of hub bearings.Thirdly, utilizing the theory of elastohydrodynamic lubrication and program ofFORTRAN77, researching about the influence of performance of grease lubrication film withthe change the parameter of bearing system, it can offer the value of reference for the axlemanufacturer to choose the viscosity of grease, performance of bearing and the amount ofgrease. The results of research can remind the manufacturer of the improvement of machining accuracy of bearing and the adjustment of end play of bearing.Finally, combing the investigation and theoretic study, preliminary choosing severalkinds of grease, comparing the standard of grease performance with test, it is very successfulto choose the available grease for hub bearing of semi-trailer and also provide the basicreference for the later-improving.
