The adsorption mechanism of coal to CO2has not yet been fully consistentalthough lot of research work has been done by many researchers. In addition, the arisenstudy on the sorption of shale to CO2in the last one or two years proved the shale’ssorption theory is still in the initial stage. The sorption properties of both coal and shaleto CO2in goaf were carried out in this paper based on the previous research.First, the main influence factors of the CO2absorption capacity was studied fromtheories. Secondly, the coal shale of Nanyangpo, Chensilou and Hongmiao mining areaswere analyzed. Second, the absorption of CO2gas phenomena was studied usingWY-98A absorption determinator systematically. The absorption effect on the imitatedcoal and shale samples were evaluated, and a suitable model to describe the absorptionof CO2of coal and shale are selected for optimization. Again, the coal samples’ size ofabsorption quantity per unit area with shale samples are compared according to the coaland shale samples’ surface free energy computing results. Finally, the absorbed amountsof CO2to1t coal and1t shale were calculated in Nanyangpo, Chensilou and Hongmiaomining areas. The study results will play an important role in guiding significance tocontrol the coal spontaneous combustion in goaf and CO2storage theory.
