Comparative Study On The Technology Of The Footbinding Arched-Shoe And The Tian-Zu Embroidered Shoe

This paper focuses on the footbinding arched-shoe and the Tian-zu embroidered shoe whichwere worn by the Han nationality women. The paper is based on more than two hundred of thefootbinding arched-shoe and the Tian-zu embroidered shoe which were collected in the ForkCostumes Biography Museum of Southern Yangtze University and the Museum of Feng Getang inShanghai, combining the literature search method, the fieldwork method, the physical analysismethod, the physical recovery method and the summarized method, thus combing the developmentof the footbinding and Tian-zu, and the development and technology of the footbinding arched-shoeand the Tian-zu embroidered shoe, on this basis,the author compared their technology tosummarize their technical features.First of all, this paper analyses the development of the footbinding and Tian-zu. The authorlearned the development of footbinding went through three styles: thin straight footbinding whichwas exist from the beginning of footbinding to the early of Ming Dynasty, lotus feet which wasexist from the early of Ming Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty, Jiefang foot which was exist fromthe end of Qing dynasty to the Republic of China. Tian-zu always has been present in the history ofmankind, even in the time of appearance, development and peak of the footbinding. It has greatsignificance to the people’s lives.Second, combined literature and physical analysis, the paper liststhe common footbinding arched-shoe and the Tian-zu embroidered shoe, and classifies, records theprocess of footbinding arched-shoe from toe spring, toe, upper vamp in detail. And then, theprocedures and points of Tian-zu embroidered shoe’s technology which were making by technologytransmission. And with the help of them, the author studied and analyzed the technology offootbinding arched-shoe, so as to come up with commonly stitches and techniques, recovering theprocess of footbinding arched-shoe and the Tian-zu embroidered shoe.Finally, the process is dividedinto three parts of the cutting, sewing, decoration to compare, thus summarizing technical featuresare—beauty with consistent and do means auspicious.This paper is based on research perspective of folklore, the technology of the footbindingarched-shoe and the Tian-zu embroidered shoe were studied, tap the traditional manual shoemakingprocess essence. The study on the inheritance of the traditional manual shoe box to protect theintangible cultural heritage is of great cultural significance and academic value.
