According to the mechanism of coordination of aluminum hydroxide, phosphoruselements and silicon flame retardant, DOPO structure was reacted with silane coupling agentto synthetic DOPO-based silane coupling agent. And the aluminium hydroxide (ATH) wasmodified by DOPO-based silane coupling agent so as to improve its effects on the fireretardant of the unsaturated resin. On the basis of maximum exert its flame retardant synergyeffect, aluminum hydroxide’s dispersion was improved in resin matrix.The main work of thetopic is:Firstly, according to the principle that active P-H of DOPO can react with epoxy groupsof silane coupling agent (KH-560), two raw materials were used to synthesis DOPO-basedsilane coupling agent, which was characterized by FT-IR spectrometer and1H NMR spectra.Results showed that DOPO-based silane coupling agent grafted on the surface modification ofATH. P-H key of DOPO fracture, and epoxy groups of KH-560reacted, then P-CH2formated.TGA results showed that: DOPO based silane coupling agent’s decomposition temperatureand thermal decomposition temperature are higher than that of raw material and the residue isas high as23.56%, which showed good thermal stability.Then with DOPO based silane coupling agent used as the modifier, phosphorus andsilicon were brought on the surface of aluminum hydroxide (ATH). Through methods ofchemical modification method and the ball milingl modification, DOPO-ATH wascharacterized by FT-IR spectrometer. The results showed the successful graft of DOPO typesilane coupling agent to the surface of aluminum hydroxide produced with the two methods.The variation of both DOPO-ATH′sVibrating vibrating peaks of change of Ball millmodification DOPO-ATH and chemical methods of modification DOPO-ATH was consistent,this which showed that the the same reaction mechanism of the two preparation methods havethe same reaction mechanism and the consistency of experimental design were consistent.With consideration of the LOI of modified aluminum hydroxide filled unsaturated resin,the technological parameters of the chemical modification were as follows, the dosage ofDOPO based coupling agent be3%, the modification temperature be65oC.While those forball mill modification were modified agent content of5%, milling time3h. By usingscanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nano particle tester, modified aluminumhydroxide′s micro morphology and size distribution were tested. The results showed thatboth the two synthetize methods of DOPO-ATH made the particles size of aluminumhydroxide were bigger. However, compared with that through chemical modification, theincrease in the aluminum hydroxide′s particle size with ball mill modification was remitted.What′s more, after ball mill modification, the particle size distribution of aluminumhydroxide was improved, no deterioration of reunion happened on the particle.DOPO-ATH’s flame retardant properties and the thermal performance werecharacterized by TGA, LOI and UL-94.The results showed that the initial decompositiontemperature of chemical modified DOPO-ATH was improved. And with the samedecomposition rates, DOPO-ATH’s corresponding decomposition temperature got higherthan the raw ATH. When filled with same quantity of DOPO-ATH (the same dosage of DOPO based coupling agent), the LOI of the unsaturated resin filling with ball mill modifiedDOPO-ATH was higher than that filled with that modified through chemical methods.When the loading of DOPO-ATH was20%, the ball milled DOPO-ATH unsaturatedexhibited a LOI value of29and passed the UL94V-0test.
