High speed point grinding combines advantages of high speed grinding and point grinding, which integrates CNC technology, the technology of hard abrasive wheel and high speed grinding. The behaviors of grains are different from traditional cylindrical grinding due to wheel’s high speed and the swivel angle of point grinding in high speed point grinding。The grinding angles in point grinding result in the point contact between the wheel and the work piece. The advantages of this technology are bringing low grinding force and low grinding temperature compared to common grinding。Although the technology is widely used in machining shafts, which is applied in the fields of machine tools, car manufacturing and tool manufacturing, the research on the mechanism and the controlling of grinding quality is rare in domestic and foreign countries. Some domestic factories of car manufacturing introduce into QUICKPOINT series grinding machine made by Junker. But the core of technology hasn’t been mastered by domestic enterprises, which restricts the applied range and the exploitation of the technology. It is necessary to research the theories and the applications of super-high speed point grinding deeply. This project is supported by national natural science foundation of China (No.50775032). the main work of this paper is as follows:(1) The characteristics, development and application of the high speed grinding technology are summarized, key contents of the technology are emphasized though a lot of material. The study implications and significance of the paper are also introduced.(2) The functions of coarse grinding field and finished grinding field of the new type wheel are introduced respectively, the function of the angle between the wheel shaft and the work piece shaft are introduced, the grinding depth the length of contacting arc are acquired.(3) The high speed point grinding surface quality orthogonal test were designed and completed. The main contents of the surface integrity and the relation between surface integrity and the work piece properties are introduced. The test contents are determined, which lead to a comprehensive evaluation of super high speed grinding.The experimental operation is introduced and a simple analysis of experimental phenomena is made.(4) The influence trends of grinding parameters such as wheel speed, grinding depth, work piece axial feed speed and a on grinding surface quality were discussed. The value of grinding parameters which lead to fine grinding surface were drawn. By the analysis of metallographic, residual stress, hardness and energy spectrum of the grinding surface, the grinding surface integrity were evaluated._Grinding surface quality is controlled by choosing reasonable values of parameters.(5) The conclusions from the paper are summarized and the rational suggestions for further research are provided.
