The single channel drum dryer works in a main way of drying with convention. It has been widely used in the fields of chemistry, light industry, coal, building materials and metallurgy. This article describes the working principle of the drum dryer and fluid dynamic software FLUENT is used to analysis and research in the paper. It can get the simulation results which guide the actual dry operation.Pre-treatment technology is applied to complete the work of dividing grid, and then a series of setup and analysis should be done in the post-processing. The analysis of this issue is mainly considered between the gas phase and gas-solid phase. The simulation of gas phase is relatively simple and the chosen physical models are few, so it iterates fast. Change the size of the air inlet, simulate flow field of gas phase again and analysis the results which has been changed. The analysis of gas-solid phase can refer to the simulation results of the gas analysis.It is complex to research the process of the gas-solid phase. And the standard k-ε model, evaporation model, hybrid model and component transport model are chosen to simulate the fluid flow. Besides, SIMPLE algorithm is selected. Inlet and outlet are respectively imposed on velocity boundary condition and pressure boundary condition. After the simulation, the velocity distribution, the temperature distribution and the pressure distribution can get. Transform the program, for example, increase windshield board, and simulate the gas-solid phase once more. Contrast to these distribution picture, it conclude that the windshield board interfere with the flow of air, which not only is energy made full use of, but also maximum velocity is reduced, particle residence time is increased and drying quality is improved.Uniform and Rammler Rosin-methods are selected to define particle size distribution and use discrete phase model to simulate particle trajectory in order to simulate the particle diameter distribution and particle retention time distribution. Then draw a conclusion:the small particle diameter follows better properties and is more subject to hot air. The larger particle diameter is, the greater inertia and centrifugal force are. The paper provides a research about flow field of single channel drum dryer based on the theories of fluid mechanics and heat transfer so that it gets two-phase flow field of continuous and discrete phase simulation results. Compared with the actual production, the obtained results are proved truly. These results provide adequate basis for late improvement and optimization of the dryer’s structure.
