Fiber metal laminates (FMLs) were hybrid materials based on stacked arrangementsof metal alloy and fiber reinforced composite layers, In this case, this new materialprovided a better mechanical property as compared with metal materials and other fiberreinforce plastics. And owing to the “bridging “of fiber, FMLs had significant fatigueproperties. Because of these excellent performances, it had been a huge applications inaerospace engineering. So, FMLs would have a very wide development on Marineindustry. In this paper, a numerical analysis of damage in FMLs under low/high velocityimpact were performed and based of three-dimension dynamic finite element analysissoftware ABAQUS.In analysis of low velocity impact, through the comparison of the experiments andnumerical simulations, it’s illuminated the effectiveness of method. Particular attention ispaid to analyzed the impact performance of CARAL about debonding and absorbedenergy under different impact velocities. And then compared with CFRP, it’s shown thatfiber metal laminates have an excellent impact property. In the simulation analysis of high velocity impact, paper introduced three types ofCARAL and analyzed the impact performance which consisted of the macro points of thespecimen’s deformation and absorbed energy and the some micro points, such as matrixdamage, fiber damage, metal damage and debonding under the different impulsive factors.Obtained in the case of equal thickness, compared with CARAL specimen which ownsless alternate layers, the specimen owned more alternate layers had greater advantages.
