Acrylamide polymers are the names of acrylamide homopolymers andcopolymers of acrylamide with other monomers, and polymers which contain morethan50%acrylamide monomer structural unit are generally referred to aspolyacrylamide. Polyacrylamide and its derivatives, a new type of fine functionalpolymer products, play an important role in water-soluble polyelectrolyte. Moreover, cationic polyacrylamide is widely used as a kind of effective flocculant in the areas ofwater treatment, metallurgy, paper making and so on.By using a complex redox initiating system composed of a self-madedifunctional peroxide initiator, a reductive agent and a water-soluble azo-compound, akind of cationic polyacrylamide were synthesized by aqueous solution polymerizationusing acrylamide (AM) and acryloyloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DAC) asmonomers. The optimum reaction conditions for synthesis of PAM-C were monomerconcentration30%, EDTA·2Na concentration0.01%, surfactant PF68concentration0.075%, urea concentration0.1%, dimethylcarbinol concentration0.18%, VA-044concentration0.007%, DIOOH concentration0.005%. In this condition, differentcationic degree polyacrylamide products were obtained, and the intrinsic viscosity ofcationic polyacrylamide were1300~1600ml/g.Cationic polyacrylamide of15%cationic degree which was synthesized inlaboratory was selected to study dying condition. The results showed that theoptimum constant dying temperature was70℃. The intrinsic viscosity of product was1523ml/g, and the dissolution time was67min. A further study on variabletemperature dying of cationic polyacrylamide product was conducted compared withconstant temperature dying. The results indicated that variable temperature dyingchoosing100℃as initial temperature was more efficient than constant temperaturedying, and the performance was also reliable. The design of a plant producing100tons cationic polyacrylamide flocculant wasmade, the deoxidization device and polymerization reactor were designed, and a pilotdying system and flow were established. Compared with other commodities, theflocculating performance of pilot product was researched through flocculating experiments using sewage of different places.
