Automotive Flow-able Sealing Tape Development

Automotive Flow-able Sealing tape is one kind of new sealing solution and material for vehicle roof ditch welding Chanel,which includes Epoxy, additive resin, curing agent and so on raw materials. It can be cured and seal the welding channel by flowing performance without adding addition facility in paint shop of OEMs. Its performance effects both vehicle manufacture process and body appearance quality.This thesis focuses on the relation between Epoxy resin and sealing application performance; analyses the adjustment the rate of Epoxy curing agent and accelerator to effect to flow-able performance, and study additive resin to meet paint shop special condition requirement.Compared to EVA sealing tape, Epoxy resin tape has not only more advantage on higher flowing rate to get better sealing performance on uneven welding area and provide the smoother surface for adhesion of roof ditch molding, but also higher cohesion with Paint to meet wider paint curing condition requirement on baking temperature and longer shift life. The various rate of Epoxy curing agent and accelerator can adjust the flow rate of sealing tape to give more design freedom on the section of roof ditch and welding points flexibility. The sealing tape with ethylene GMA copolymer absorbs smaller amount of moisture and show paint appearance than that with PA hybrid, and meet the special requirement of paint shop.
