The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the moisturizing effect, stability, antioxidant and whitening effect of Polyol-in-oil emulsion (P/O) system. The P/O system can stabilize Vitamin C (Vc), meanwhile show good performance on moisturizing, antioxidant and whitening effect.P/O system was studied by comparing the moisturizing properties of the system with different proportion of oil phase, polyols. humectant assistant, then screened out the opitimized P/O system formulations. The moisture performance of P/O system is better than commercially available products.Vitamin C was formulated in water solution. W/O emulsion and P/O emulsion, then the stability was tested under high temperature in4weeks. Results showed that even a little amount of water will strongly decrease the retaining rates of Vitamin C, the retaining rates of Vitamin C of water solution was decreased to47%, the retaining rates of Vitamin C of O/W system was decreased to61%and the retaining rates of Vitamin C of waterless P/O system was maintained at99%.The superoxide anion clearance rate of different systems was determinated by pyrogallol method. The results showed that, the superoxide anion clearance rate of Vc water solution was dropped to27.50%, O/W emulsion was dropped to47.00%, the P/O emulsion of superoxide anion clearance rate was highest above66%. The P/O emulsion showed better performance in antioxidant effect than other systems.The tyrosinase inhibitive rate of different systems was observed. The tyrosinase inhibitive rate of P/O emulsion is highest remained at70%, the tyrosinase inhibition rate of Vc solution was decreased from74.58%to35.72%, tyrosinase inhibition rate of O/W emulsion was decreased from77.24%to47.68%, P/O emulsion system can be better than other systems to stabilized Vc, it could fully perform inhibiting tyrosinase activity, so as to achieve skin whitening effect.P/O system can stabilize vitamin C and show better performance in moisturizing, antioxidant, whitening and other properties than the traditional systems, P/O system can play a synergistic role with vitamin C, its high performance will be competitive and practical in market.
