The electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs), whichcombines the merits of semiconductor, electrochemistry and chemiluminescence, has becomea new field of ECL analysis and developed rapidly since Bard observed the ECL phenomenaof semiconductorNCs. During the past several years, the researchers have observed more andmore senmincoductorNCs can produce ECL phenomena and prepared the solid state ECLsensor which is applied to bioanalysis and evironmental analysis based on the ECL ofsenmincoductorNCs. Tungsten trioxide (WO3) has been paid considerable attentationbecause of the excellent electrochromism, gaschromism, thermochromism, photochromismand et al. However, it is noted that the ECL behavior of WO3have rarely been reported. Inthis article, we synthesized the WO3NCs and MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite, and researchedtheir ECL performance. In addition, we also prepared the ECL sensor of MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite and searched its performace and application.The WO3NCs were synthesized by a hydrothermal and high temperature calcinationsmethod and characterized by SEM, XRD, XPS, UV-vis and PL. Also, the (WO3NCs/Nafionfilm modified electrode was prepared based on fixing the WO3NCs on the surface ofelectrode with the help of Nafion and the ECL behavior of WO3NCs was reseracehed withthe home-made ECL testing instrument. The results show the WO3NCs have good ECLbehavior. One ECL peak was obeserved in the buffer solution without the presence oftripropylamine (TPrA), but two ECL peaks were obeserved in the buffer solution with thepresence of TPrA. Furthmore, the possible ECL mechanisms of WO3NCs were proposed.The MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite were synthesized by a ethanol reflux and hightemperature calcinations method, and characterized by XRD, EDS, SEM, UV-vis and PL.Also, the MWCNT/(WO3NCs/Nafion film modified electrode was prepared based on fixingthe MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite on the surface of electrode with the help of Nafion and theECL behavior of MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite was reseracehed with the home-made ECLtesting instrument. The results show MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite have good ECL behavior.Two ECL peaks were obeserved in the buffer solution with the presence of TPrA and the ECL mechanisms of MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite are coordinated with the ECL mechanisms ofWO3NCs. In addition, the ECL intensity of MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite is higher than theECL intenstity of WO3NCs produced by the same method. Therefore, MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite made by this method not only have good ECL performance but also provide anexcellent material for ECL sensor.The ECL sensor of MWCNT/(WO3NCscomposite was constructed by means of theMWCNT/(WO3NCs/Nafion film modified electrode. The stability of the ECL sensor wasresearched in order to evaluate the application aspect.
