Polymer/Layered Silicate (PLS) nanocomposite is a type of material composited in the nanometer size, which uses the organic polymers as the continuous phase and the layered silicate layers as the reinforcement phase. Shandong is one of the biggest material producing provinces, which has rich bentonite (Montmorillonite MMT). There are also many nylon manufacturers in Shandong, but most of them are with a single product and have low additional output value. They fail to utilize organic bentonite to modify the properties of nylon products or improve the products’synthetic performance. This research fills these gaps in some ways, which makes it closely linked to the market.In this work, the PA/OMMT nano-composite is prepared with the polyamide (PA) and organic bentonite (OMMT) by melting intercalation method. The test results show that the performances such as mechanical property, processability have been improved significantly.With the material of the bentonite from the mine in Weifang City of Shandong, OMMT is prepared by purification, sodium modification and organic modification. We analyze the influence of OMMT prepared by different modifiers on the PLS nanocomposite and find out the most suitable OMMT for preparing the PA/OMMT nanocomposites. The experimental results indicate that both the long-chain organic cation and the N-alkyl amino acids can improve the property of MMT.We prepared PA66/OMMT nanocomposites by polymer melt intercalation and test the performance of the composite structure, interface morphology, and mechanical properties by means of XRD, SEM, electronic universal testing machine and so on. The test results show that the mechanical properties can be improved significantly when the PA macromolecular chains are plugged into OMMT layers.By research the rheological behavior, we find that the viscosity of the system can be improved with a moderate increase of OMMT and it can be reduced by increasing the temperature and the shear rate. However, the liquidity of the system will decrease immediately if the content of OMMT is too large, which go against the moulding processing. In order to improve the synthetic performance, this paper prepares polyamide alloy by blending method which selected PA6and PA66alloy as the polyamide alloy, which combines the good liquidity of PA6and the high-temperature resistance of PA66, obviously improving its performance.
