Environmental pollution and energy issues have become the two majorbottlenecks of the21st century for development. In recent years, a growingnumber of studies have focused on the development of non-pollutedenvironmental remediation techniques and the clean energy productiontechnology. Among them, it is undoubted that the utilization of thephotocatalytic semiconductors can achieve this goal.It emerged increasingly that the research about photocatalyticdegradation of various dye and photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogenproduction by semiconductor. In our study, different morphologies andphases of potassium niobate with low-dimensional nanostructures weresynthesized under the hydrothermal environment. The samples contained asfollows: orthorhombic potassium niobate nanowires, nanorods, cube and thecubic phase potassium niobate. They were characterized by powder X-raydiffraction, micro-Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR, diffuse reflectanceUV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanningelectron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy. It is obtained that the crystal structure, electronic structure, elements on thesurface. They are applied on the experiments to evaluate the photocatalyticproperties. In this thesis, it is demonstrated that the potassium niobatenanostructure can be applied on the photocatalytic dye degradation andphotocatalytic water cleavage for hydrogen production. This study ispotentially applicable to a range of niobate-based nanostructures inphotocatalysis and relevant areas.
