Die-Casting is an accurate casting method, which is known as high benefit and highefficiency. There are, however, existing problems like various sort of die material, complexdie structure, instability, heavy workload and long cycle in the design of die casting mould.Therefore, in this paper based on the thought of absorbing and reusing mature expertknowledge, the artificial intelligence technology is used to research and develop the expertsystem aimed at large and complex die-casting dies and lay the foundation of designingefficient and reasonable mould.Access2007database technology and object-oriented programming language VisualBasic6.0and are used to establish and develop the system. In order to carry out scientificDie-Casting die material selection and design, this study has established18kinds of hot diematerials database which includes9basic performance databases and8sub-module of molddesign for the building of knowledge base. Using the Forward reasoning principle, combiningthe expert knowledge and criteria to build inference machine, the system make it come truethat users can be provided the reasonable expert advice by man-machine interaction.The key point to build the expert system is to collect and organize the Experts actualdesign experience. The base of “complex Die-Casting die expert system” will be achieved bymaking the technology digital and controllable. The specific research results:1) In the stageof choosing mold material, the system can provide comprehensively reliable materialperformance data and recommend the best materials based on the casting type, materialperformance, the typical failure form and mechanism parts category.2) In the stage of moldstructure design, the main design parameters will be provided, meanwhile, there are manyadvice about how to involve the standardization thought.3) In the offer and diagnosis module,based on the “experience law” and the “working hours method”, two quotation systems hasbeen built, at the same time “die casting diagnosis database” was established including25typical defects of die casting.This system applies well to the actual development of "gearbox shell" and "motorcyclecover" and other large, complex casting die as well, improves the design efficiency, completesthe given tasks of "the large, complex and high life Die-Casting die" which is the science andtechnology major project. Meanwhile, it provides the exploration of the intelligent andstandardization of mold design in the future.
