This article maded a study about the cutting and tribology behavior of TiN、TiAlN、TiAlSiN and TiAlN/Ta carbide coated tools by the support of national major project “Asurface modification technology using high-performance carbide cutting tools”. In orderto provide the theoretical foundation and experimental basis for developing new PVDcarbide coated tools meeted the high-speed and high precision, four PVD carbide coatedtools were investigated of cutting, wear mechanisms, machining accuracy and wearmorphology conbined surface roughness, mechanical properties surface morphology, spectroscopy and other analytical tools. The main contents conclusion of this study areas follow:Different carbide coated tools were used to do several experiments in order to findthe geometry effect on cutting. Coated tools with corner radius0.4mm,0.8mm andchip-breaking groove EF, EM were used to cut45#steels in oder to discuss the cuttingand wear behavior of tools with different geometry. The results show that the greater thecorner radius, the greater cutting force, firction coefficient and surface roughness; thetools with greater chip-breaking were made greater cutting force, at the same time, firction coefficient and surface roughness of the tools were greater. The cutting force andfriction of coated tools cutting45steels(quenching) and copper all are greater than thatof cutting45steels(quenched and tempered) and aluminum. Be processed pieces ofmaterial on the surface roughness values have a certain influence, but the impact of heattreatment condition is not obvious. The carbide coated tools with TiN、TiAlN、TiAlSiN were used to make severalexperiments in order to discuss the cutting tribological properities. By compared threecoated tools cut1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steels, they were used to study the cutting, frictionand wear characteristics. The results show that TiAlSiN coated tool has greater cuttingforce but the friction coefficient, surface ronghness and amout of wear is the minimum. Its cutting and tribological properties is superior tools with TiN and TiAlN; The wearlooks of three coated tools were rake face and flank wear; The wear mechanism wereadhesive wear, mechanical stress, shock, diffusion and oxidation wear. The carbide coated tools with TiAlSiN and TiAlN/Ta were used to make severalexperiments in order to discuss the cutting tribological properities. By comparednon-coated tools cut45#steels, they were used to study the cutting, friction and wearcharacteristics. The results show that coated tools showed excellent performance in cutting45#steels. It demonstrated that coatings greatly improved the life and mechanicalproperties of carbide cutting tools. Cutting force, friction coefficient, amout of wear andsurface ronghness of TiAlN/Ta coated tool were slightly less than TiAlSiN coated tool’s.The wear looks of three coated tools were rake face and flank wear; The wearmechanism were fatigue spalling, crack, diffusion and oxidation wear.
