Three α-bromoacetophenone compounds were synthesized from the commercially available startingmaterial acetophenone compounds and liquid bromine and study on substrates selection and use ofcatalyst. Four coumarin derivatives were prepared by the reaction of the P-Cresol,1-Naphthol,Resorcinol with the ethyl acetoacetate, and the four formyl coumarin derivatives were prepared viathe oxidation reaction. The optimum reaction conditions were determined through effect ofthe molar ratio, reaction temperature and pH value. The formyl coumarin compound’s structurewas conformed by the IR,1H NMR spectrum.The eight β-hydroxyl ketone derivatives modified by the coumarin were synthesized bythe reaction of α-bromoacetophenone compounds promoted by zinc powder with formylcoumarin in presence of ionic liquid ([Bmim]Cl). The structure of the synthesized compoundswere detected by melting point and characterized by IR and1H NMR. The results show that thestructure of the same between compounds and target products. The optimum reactionconditions were determined through effect of the molar ratio, catalyst amount, ionic liquidamount. β-Hydroxyl ketone derivatives should be obtained in moderate yields through the aqueousphase Reformatsky reaction promoted by the zinc powder and the [bmim]Cl of α-bromoacetophenonewith formyl coumarin.Ionic liquids as a promoter, in response to well promote of the formyl coumarin andbromoacetophenone, and not in response to the ionic liquid as compared to before, shorterreaction time and the reaction yield increase. Moreover, Ionic liquid could be reused inexcellent efficiency. The ionic liquids could be recovered conveniently and reused for at leastfour times without evident loss of yields. This description of ionic liquids is a highly efficient,environmentally friendly promoter of bromoacetophenone and formyl coumarin in theaqueous phase Reformatsky reaction, fully embodies the concept of green chemistry.
