Mass customization is a kind of advanced production mode,which brings together the advantages of batch production and customizationproduction. By utilizing advanced design methods and production modes,mass customization inputs the customized parameters and outputs individualproducts with high quality and low cost effectively. The tolerance design ofcustomized product is an important issue of product design quality and has animportant influence on the product’s reliability, quality and its cost.Identifying the tolerances of mass customization product reasonably in thedesign phase not only can guide the subsequent manufacturing process, butalso ensure the quality of mass customization product. This paper combinesthe theories of advanced tolerance design with the technologies of masscustomization production. According to tolerance requirements ofcustomization products, a tolerance design method for dimensionalcoanstraint chain was presented based on statistical tolerance methods. Basedon these, the tolerance information of closing can be derived rapidly. by theconstructions of dimension constraint chains, the paper designs programs toderive the other dimensional tolerances in the dimension chains or tolerancechains. The main contents of this dissertation are the following.Firstly, in order to derive the tolerance information of mass customizedproducts quickly and reasonably, this dissertation proposed a series ofefficient methods of tolerance design with the consideration of thecharacteristics of mass customization products. Base on worst-case methodand statistical method of tolerance design, a tolerance derive method forclosing was presented. And the mathematical model of tolerance optimizingdesign and concerned algorithm were proposed respectively.Secondly, this dissertation put forward a set of methods to analyzeassembly structure of complex assemblies. Based on these, we can obtainconstraint relations between the characteristic dimensions and functionrequirements, and then the objective functions and constraint conditions can be derived. In addition, the total functions-minimize cost, quality loss,and constraint conditions considering the actual process capabilities can beconstructed according to the analysis results.Thirdly, the algorithm of tolerance derivation process was designed, andthe prototype system of tolerance design for mass customization product wasdeveloped based on Pro/E, Matlab and Lingo. As a result, the optimization oftolerances can be implemented.Finally, the paper introduced the frame and key modules of the prototypesystem. To verify the feasible of priciples and methods in this paper, a casewas given out based on a specific product. The results shown that thetolerance statistical methods, tolerance optimization models and its slovingalgorithm are feasible. This paper has fifty-two pictures, thirteen tables andfifty-four references.
