Refractory linings are widely used in modern industrial furnace, such as metallurgical,machine, aviation, chemical, building material, etc. They are the indispensability components ofhigh temperature vessels. Owing to the bad service environment of the refractory, the resultingdamage of the refractory will reduce service life duration of the refractory. More unfortunately, itwill influence the normal working of the whole production flow. In this paper, by means ofmicromechanics theory, mesoscopic damage mechanics model of the normal temperature and thehigh temperature were established, and the damage behavior of the magnesia carbon refractorywas investigated.(1) According to the different sates of the refractory’s interface, on the basis of theinterphase model, the paper utilized the continuous change of the mechanical properties of theinterface phase to describe the process of the refractory damaged. It is found that the elasticproperties of the perfect interface represented by the model matched well with the no damagematerial, and the elastic properties of the debonding interface represented by the model matchedwell with the destroyed material.(2) On the basis of the damage mechanics theory and the interphase model, the paperestablished mesoscopic damage mechanics model of the magnesia carbon refractory in thetension and compression under the normal temperature. The model can successfully simulate thedamage process of magnesia carbon refractory.(3) Based on the damage mechanics theory, the interphase model and propertied of therefractory such as the thermal expansibility, the paper established mesocopic damage mechanicsmodel of the magnesia carbon refractory in the tension and compression under the hightemperature. The model can successfully simulate damage process of magnesia carbon refractoryunder the high temperature.In this paper, on the basis of the damage mechanics theory, the interphase model andpropertied of the refractory such as the thermal expansibility, mesocopic damage mechanicsmodel of the magnesia carbon refractory in the tension and compression under the normal andhigh temperature was established. The model can successfully simulate damage process ofmagnesia carbon refractory under the normal temperature and high temperature. It provides anew idea to study nonlinear mechanics behavior of the refractory.
