As an important part of the computer information technology, computer-aided designand manufacturing (CAD/CAM) is a pivotal technology to realize manufacturing automationand to promote the technical progress of enterprises and to enhance technical innovativeability and the competitive ability of enterprise. At present, the development and applicationof CAD/CAM has become a crucial symbol of the technological and industrial modernizationof a country. CAD/CAM is an epoch-making reform for traditional manufacturing. Mold isone of the industry that can exert the most benefit of CAD/CAM.Mold CAD/CAM is an crucial technology for traditional manufacturing. It is the systemengineering with high-tech and high efficiency. It provides an effective auxiliary tool forenterprise. The engineers can improve product performance, mold structure, manufacturingtechnology, CNC machining and production procedure with the help of computer. It hasbecome the consensus of the mold industry that mold CAD/CAM can shorten themanufacturing cycle, reduce production costs and improve product quality.Based on the powerful software Unigraphics NX,this disquisition makes use of UGsecondary development languages offered by modules of UG/OPEN GRIP and UG MACRO,realizes customization development of the common CAD/CAM system, and then establish thespecial CAD/CAM system with the mold manufacturing knowledge and processes for cavitymold. This system takes advantage of the software UG with offering the suitable technologysolutions.This special CAD/CAM system will enormously reduce the heavy work of moldmanufacturing, improve CNC programming efficiency, shorten the manufacturing cycle ofcavity mold, reduce the error rate, improve the manufacturing quality of mold, strengthen theapplication of standards of the manufacturing process in cavity mold and satisfy thecustom-built demand for the majority of users of mold manufacturing.
