A series of dehydroabietylamine (1) derivatives including N-[(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)-imino] dehydroabietylamine schiff-base (2), N-(2-methylpyridineamine) dehydroabietylamine (3), N-(5-bromo-salicylaldehyde) dehydroabietylamine (4), dehydroabietylamine sodium salicylaldehyde-5-sulphonate schiff-base (8), N-(salicylaldehyde) dehydroabietylamine schiff-base (11), N-(quinoxaline-2-aldehyde) dehydroabietylamine schiff-base (13), two mononuclear copper complexes (6,7) of sciff-base2, one dinuclear copper complex (5) of schiff-base4, two rare earth complexes (9,10) of sciff-base8, and two copper complexes (12,14) of2,2’-bipyridine were synthesized. Six new compounds were characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction method. All the compounds in this work were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR and MS spectroscopic techniques. The binding mode of the compounds to salmon sperm DNA was studied by spectroscopic techniques, such as UV, fluorescence and circular dichroism (CD), viscosity analysis and gel electrophoresis means was involved, too.The study of the interaction of compounds2and3with DNA tells us that the reduced and non-reduced form of one schiff-base do not have the same binding ability, and the double bond C=N makes the non-reduced schiff-base have a much stronger binding ability to intercalate DNA.Schiff-base4and its dinuclear copper complex5were synthesized and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction method. The interaction of the compounds with salmon sperm DNA was investigated by spectroscopic techniques and viscosity analysis. And the antibacterial activities of them against Escherichia coli (gram-negative bacterium) and Staphylococcus aureus (gram-positive bacterium) were investigated by disc paper method. Both of them can bind to DNA via intercalative mode, and the complex5has much stronger binding ability with DNA and antibacterial activity.Schiff-base2and its two mononuclear copper complexes (6,7) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction method. The study of complexes’binding ability to salmon sperm DNA and antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was carried out. The results indicate that the anion species have fine effect on the copper complexes’binding ability to DNA. And the complex7has slightly stronger binding ability and antibacterial activity. Schiff-base8and its rare earth complexes of Sm (9) and Eu (10) were synthesized and their possible structures were inferred. The results show that complexes bind to DNA by the joint of partial intercalation and groove binding. And they could cleavage the pBR121DNA under certain conditions. Two novel2,2’-bipyridine copper dinuclear complounds [Cu(SAL)(2,2’-bipy) CO4]2(SAL=salicylaldehyde) and [Cu(OH)(2,2’-bipy)NO3]2were gotten with the assist of dehydroabietylamine schiff-base (11for12,13for14). They bind to DNA by intercalative mode, and the binary complex14has stronger ability for binding DNA.
