With the prompt development of social economy and speeding up urbanization, the situation of water environment is increasingly serious. According to Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)(GB18918-2002), the newly built WWTPs after2002will reach the first level A and the exisiting WWTPs will be retrofitted to reach the the first level A gradually. In order to meet the discharge standard, the built WWTPs need to be retrofit. The current retrofit strategies are mainly focus on the hardware facilities, such as process、 equipment et al, which requires a high cost. However, strengthening on the scientific operation management of the exisiting WWTPs to elevate the treatment efficiency is an effective strategy to deal with the increasingly stringent discharge standard and yield twice the result with half the effort. Using the Post-Assessment principle, investigate and evaluate the operation status of the exisiting WWTPs, analyze the current problems, propose a corresponding solution finally. There is an important actual significance that using the post-assessment method to investigate and evaluate to solve the exisiting problems in WWTPs and improve contamination removal efficiency.After a field study of three WWTPs, the results of investigated data analysis indicated that three WWTPs had a goodoBOD and phosphorus removal efficiency. However, there was a bad nitrogen removal performance in three WWTPs, but the reasons differed from one to another. The aeration volume is too large leading to high dissolved oxygen resulted in the lack of carbon source in denitrification stage in plant1. In contrast, there were shortage of aeration volume leading to uncomplete nitrification resulted in bad nitrogen removal efficiency in plant2and plant3. For the problems existing in every plant, the resolution methods were suggested using past-assessment principle. The monitor and analysis of plamt1by Monod kinetics model showed that the model could describe the actual treatment plants operation status and predict the effect of adjust strategies to guide the waste water treatment plant operation.Taking the actual WWTPs as the target, this study carried out field inveatigation, past-assessed the operation status, analyzed the current problems exisited in the SBR WWTPs proposed feasible recommendation finally. At the same time to resolve the actual problems, we hope to set up an exchange platform between the operation manager and the designer and make some contributions to improve the operation and management of the wastewater treatment industry in China.
