Copper-catalyzed C-N coupling reaction, namely the Ullmann reaction, is one of the most important and efficient method for the synthesis of N-arylated products. Through great efforts that many groups have made, the modern Ullmann reaction has overcome the the traditional Ullmann reaction’s drawbacks such as the harsh reaction conditions and low efficiency. Now most of the NH-containing compounds can be employed in the Ullmann reaction, and successfully accomplish the cross-couplings with various aryl halides under simple and mild conditions with high efficiency. The N-arylated products of small molecular amines are important structural units, which are widely found in pharmaceuticals, natural products, and functional materials. However, the reports on their synthesis through facile and efficient Ullmann reactions are pretty less, and the C-N couplings between small molecular amines and aryl halides have not been thoroughly investigated yet.In this thesis, we developed two mild and efficient Ullmann reaction systems, and systematically investigated the cross-couplings of a series of aryl halides with various small molecular amines under these two systems. This work further explores the application scope of Ullmann reactions, and provides a new access to the synthesis of the N-arylated products of small molecular amines.
