With rapid development of nanoscience and nanotechnology, nanomaterials as akind of new type materials have attracted much attention and get wide application.Particularly, based on their nontoxic nature, low cost and abundance in nature, ZnOnanostructures have been of great interest for a long time as a kind of promisingheterogeneous catalysts. Based on this knowledge, in this paper, we studied thesynthetic methods, catalytic properties and applications of ZnO and its composites. Themain contents are as follows:(1) NanoZnO materials with different surface defect concentration have beenobtained by various methods. The excellent catalytic properties of the as-prepared ZnOnanocrystals were investigated by reaction of catalytic hydrocarbon selective oxidation.(2) Au/ZnO nanowires nanocomposires were synthesized by a simple method. Thephotocatalytic properties of the as-prepared sample for the degradation of gas-phasebenzene were evaluated.(3) ZnO/CQDs nanocomposites were obtained and exhibited enhancedphotocatalytic performance for the degradation of toxic gas under visible light.Furthermore, it was confirmed that “dyade” structure of ZnO/CQDs and theupconversion emission of CQDs are the key factors in the photocatalytic degradationprocess.(4) Au/ZnO nanoparticles have been obtained by a simple method. Thephotocatalysis of the as-prepared Au/ZnO NPs for the hydroxylation of benzene havebeen studied upon UV and visible light irradiation.
