Software Development Of Packing Absorbers

Rectisol, an important process of gas purification, is now widely used in chemical industries such as synthetic ammonia. Column equipments are of the most important separation equipments in Rectisol devices. One of the effective attempts to improve the production efficiency of column equipments, reduce energy consumption, reduce investment is to switch the original plate towers to the packed ones.The packed column is an important class of column equipment, and has advantages compared with the plate column, and thus is widely applied in high liquid vapor absorption processes, vacuum desorption, separation of corrosion materials, vacuum distillation process.The packed column design is usually a tedious task, and computer softwares can help designers freed from that. When the packing type is selected, the software can calculate the main parameters of the tower equipment (column diameter, packing height and pressure drop). These results can be provided to the designers as a reference.This article focuses on development the calculation methods for random packings and structured packings. The proper hydrodynamic and mass transfer models are selected from literatures and complied with C language.Examination proved that the models are more reasonable and reliable. Except pressure drop results, errors of the column diameter and packing height results are tolerable. After examination, the software program was taken use of for the transformation of three plate columns and some impacts of mass transfer efficiency for the metal corrugated packing was summarized in this paper. These results, we hope will provide useful references for further improvements of the program and more accurate design of packed columns. This design software is a powerful tool for new tower design, expanding retrofit of the old tower, and can be applied in the preliminary sizing, rating, and performance evaluation of a packed column.
