The risk of raw and processed materials to product phenolic resin mainly comes from the storage and transportation. The risk factors of fire and explosion in the storage area and the warehouse are methanol, phenol, parformaldehyde. If the storage equipment occur damage or leakage, the substances leaked and its volatile gas can form an explosive mixture with air, the explosion accident will happen when this mixture meeting flame or high temperature. The risk factor of poisoning in storage area and warehouse are phenol and formaldehyde. To skin and mucous membrane, Phenol has a strong corrosion effects, and it can depress the central nervous or damage the liver function. If human being inhale high concentrations steam, the disease such as headaches, dizziness, lack of power, fuzzy-vision, pulmonary edema etc. could be caused. Formaldehyde has strong excitant to mucous membrane, the upper respiratory tract, skin, eyes, if contacting its steam, conjunctivitis, keratitis, rhinitis and bronchitis could be caused.The pollutants in waste gas and waste water from process of phenolic resin’s production are mainly phenol, methanol and formaldehyde, and the solid wastes is mainly the waste activated carbon hazardous which adsorption with phenol, methanol and formaldehyde. If waste water containing phenol emissions at discretion without treatment, it can bring serious harm to human, fish, and crop. Phenol can damage the person’s nervous, liver and kidney. Even if0.01mg/l phenols in the water added in chlorine, it also can produce pentachlorophenol stench result in drinking water quality decreases. The risk factors of fire and explosion on production line of phenolic resin are phenol, paraformaldehyde formaldehyde due to using methanol in production process, and the risk factors of poisoning is methanol and phenol. Short-time inhalation of methanol maybe stimulate eye or respiratory and retina, even lead to blindness.Phenolic resin product has the characteristics of low smoke and low toxicity. However, the dust formation during using the product still can cause harm to human health, such as symptoms of headaches, lethargy, general weakness, respiratory tract, asthmatic bronchitis and skin diseases, even can lead to kidney damage. This study assessed the environmental risk of phenolic resin as casting adhesives on the raw materials, production process and product of phenolic resin. It is suggested that effective precaution and emergency measure to phenolic resin risks by means of the forward forecast model about the leaking accident of toxic substances.
