Pollution Characteristics Of Polychlorinated Biphenyls In Estuary Of Daling River

Daling River is located in the Linghai City, Liaoning Province, north of Bohai Sea. as the economy continues to developed in recent years, environmental issues are becoming increasingly serious. PCBs are a class of typical persistent organic pollutants (POPs), the environment and human health caused by long-team potential hazards. This study attempts a comprehensive understanding of the water, sediments, both in terms of pollution levels and pollution characteristics of PCBs in the estuary areas of the Daling River, and to evaluate the ecological of PCBs. Otherwise, it is necessary to find out the sources of PCBs by analyzing PCBs homologue distribution characteristics.10surface water and sediment samples were collected at the downstream and estuarine of Daling River and paper mills sewage in wet season and dry season respectively. In wet seasons, the concentration of PCBs were ranged from0.4-0.74ng/L in water, and0.25-0.95ng/g dw (dry weight) in sediment. In wet seasons, the concentration of PCBs were ranged from1.6-3.1ng/L in water, and0.26-1.33ng/g dw in sediment. The PCBs level in our study were in a certain condition of lower. The mean concentration of PCBs was6.78ng/L in water from paper mills sewage, and1.05ng/g dw in sediment. Five dioxin-like PCBs were detected in our study, CB-169had the highest concentration from them. PentaCB and hexaCB were the most abundance compounds of the different homologues of PCBs.To resolve the source of PCBs by analysis the homologues of PCBs in different environmental media and study time, the result showed that the pollution from upper reaches is rather than the pollution the paper mill sewage.
