High-pressure water jet incremental sheet metal forming(WJISMF)is a novel forming process. It uses high-pressure water column instead of a rigid punch. The technology which does not need the lubricant and does not make grave surface damage has a potential future.In the research, we have built a mechanical model of sheet metal forming with water jet. It has been paid close attention on force distribution of sheet metal which was hit by the water jet when the angle between direction of water jet and sheet metal was changed. The paper points out that the deformation of sheet metal needs the minimum pressure of water jet, when the two angles between jet and sheet metal are equal. These lay the theoretical basis for future research.We used 0.2mm thick copper plate to finish the forming of the part of conical and long groove. The method of orthogonal experimental design has been used in the process of forming in order to discuss the influence of parameters which could affect the Properties of part in the process of forming. The analysis of result witnesses that the high of part will increase when the pressure of water is increased, both of them have a linear relationship. The speed has also great influence on the surface quality of part. It should be selected in appropriate range, because the higher speed would improve the surface quality of part, but it also would generate pits in the surface. The stand-off distance has smaller influence on the quality of part, it should be choose by referring to the other two parameters. Based on the analysis of result, the part which used the parameters of process had been optimized was made, and it has proved the correctness of analysis.Against the characteristic of the process, the paper has finished the design and manufacture of the special die and clamp. Through the process of the test, these parts have completed the work of test, and the test has accomplished the aim of expected.Besides, the paper has finished the design of mechanical regulating device. It has laid the groundwork for future research.
