Micro-milling technology can be used to fabricate3D micro-workpiece with a relatively higheraccuracy. The accuracy of the workpiece is, to a great extent, determined by the performance ofmicro-milling cutters. CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) diamond can be used to produce superhardcutting cutters because of its excellent properties. However, due to its high hardness and chemicalstability, it’s inefficient and expensive to produce CVD diamond micro-milling cutters currently. Inorder to improve the the CVD diamond micro-milling cutters’ processing efficiency, a new technologyto fabricate CVD diamond micro-milling cutters with graphical modal was studied in this thesis. Themain work and the results are as follows:1. Modal and stress-strain of micro-milling cutters with various structures were analyzed by finiteelement method. The modal, failure modes and stress distribution were achieved. The strength andstiffness of CVD diamond micro-milling cutters with different edge geometry were compared, whichprovides a basis for producing CVD diamond micro-milling cutters with reasonable tool structure andedge geometry.2. A series of high-quality silicon micro molds were prepared to fabricate double-layer D-type andquadrangular prism successfully. The feature sizes of micro-milling cutters were25μm,50μm and100μm. The samples were tested by SEM and ADE. The result shows that graphical modal techniqueis an ideal approach to fabricate CVD diamond micro-milling cutters, and the CVD diamondmicro-milling can be prepared in batches with good surface quality, complex shape and precisedimension.3. On high-speed steel shank, the welding experiments of the CVD diamond film containingmicro-milling cutter head were dealt with. It is shown that the diamond film has complete structureand no cracks or graphitization; the solder spread evenly; a reliable metallurgical connection betweendiamond film and solder is formed.
