| The increase in demand for miniaturized products in a broad range of potential applications resultsin advancements in miniaturization technologies. The micro-cutting technology is one of themicro/meso-machnical mamufacturing technologies, and it can fabricate any material and complex3D miniaturized product. But micro cutting is more than just scaled down of macro cutting, there aresize effect, minimum chip thickness and so on in the micro cutting process, and macro cutting can notexplain these phenomena. So the mechanism characteristics of micro cutting process must be studied.In this paper, micro cutting force was established when cutting edge radius can not be ignored, andmicro cutting process was simulated by using Molecular Dynamics Method. The size effect, minimumchip thickness and cutting force were studied. The research work was completed as follows:First of all, micro orthogonal cutting process was established by using the Molecular DynamicsMethod.Secondly, mathematics model about minimum chip thickness and cutting force was establishedwhen cutting edge radius can not be ignored, and the model was checked by the result of simulationdata.Thirdly, the simulation about size effect caused by point defect was computed, the result showedthe size effect phenomena.Finally, the influence of cutting width, cutting speed, cutting edge radius and tool orthogonal rakeon the micro cutting force was studied. |
