Currently, there are mainly sintering electroplate and high temperaturebrazing diamond in the ways of grinding wheel fabrication. To sintered grindingwheel.The protruding height of girts and space for lodging grinding debris issmall, and the distribution of grains is also uncontrolled. The fabrication ofelectroplated wheel easily makes environment polluted, and the strength of theelectroplated layer concreting grains is lower, which is embedded and studded inthe electroplated layer. The high-temperature brazing diamond can attain thechemical combination of grains and brazed material, but the technique iscomplicated, which can only make grinding wheel of super-abrasives of singlelayer’s metal bond.This paper based on the rapid prototyping technology, put forward a newmethod will be used to manufacture grinding wheel with a defined grain patternand controllable grain protruding height. First, design of the grinding wheeltopography in accordance with machining demands and grinding parameters,then complete solid model stratified slicing module,2D slice data processingmodule, control laser system by digital controller to laser scanner2D slice dataprocessing, uses laser beam to melt metallic powder on a substrate, finally a RPgrinding wheel is produced. A grinding wheel with a optimal grain pattern andideal grain protruding height can be obtained by this method.This paper put forward a new method of manufacture grinding wheel themain content of research is as follow:1. Expound the method and principle of frequently used laser consolidationphenomena in laser and power-bed based layered manufacturing. Especiallyfocus on the application of metal in the powder layered manufacturing andfeatures of other metal prototypes.2. Study on the process of layer manufacturing about new grinding wheel,summarize the selection principle of grains bonding agent; Especially describethe property of metal bonding agent and CBN grains; Expound working principle of new grinding wheel manufacturing equipment and its research meaning.3. Research the single grain grinding, Analyze kinetic characteristic of thesingle particle, summarize the relation of the grain interval and grindingperformance of grinding wheels initially. A finite element model of single graingrinding is established.4. Analyze the effect of grains arrangement on the performance of grindingwheel. Summarize the measures of design on the grinding wheel whichpossesses optimized grains arrangement. Grinding performance of the wheel isstudied by experiments. Grinding forces and surface grinding temperature andsurface roughness is measured. Finally, detailed difference between emulationand experiment is given, then the correctness of theoretical analysis is verified.
