Groundwater modeling is effective tool in groundwater assessment and management. And current softwares of groundwater modeling more or less exist problem. For example: the coupling of groundwater modeling software and GIS is not close enough. Using these softwares, Data processing and input become one of the most time consuming task, which is very complex and tedious. Current software’s Visualization of modeling result can not meet the requirement groundwater management .All of these brings great trouble for groundwater modeling builders. Making full use of the function of GIS in the aspect of data processing and data visualization, and closely integrating GIS and modeling become focus of hydrogeology.This dissertation works on the coupling of GIS and groundwater modeling. The aim is to developing a groundwater modeling system which can manage groundwater data, build groundwater model and visualize modeling result at one visual operation platform。After analyzing the program of Three-dimensional Finite Difference Flow Model, the paper conclude the format of input file and out file of MODFLOW, which is the foundation of integrating GIS with groundwater model. Groundwater modeling database with good structure is found. The paper analyzed elements of hydrogeology conceptual model, and studied how to build groundwater model based on conceptual model. By integrating GIS and MODFLOW, visual groundwater modeling system was developed Under C# environment. In the end, Groundwater model of Beijing plain was built in this system.In the end, the paper realized close coupling of GIS and MODFLOW. Dispersing model region , Automatically input model parameter , model results visualization and data interpolation can be achieved in the modeling system .The modeling system is much better than other model software in the facet of data input and model results visualization, which can be a effective tool for building groundwater model quickly.
